Welcome to Birds Collective
I struggled to think of a name for my practice. What should I call the place that’s centered around self-paced growth and encouragement? I didn’t want a name that was a mouthful or one that didn’t stand out. I told myself to stop thinking about it and just let it find its way to me. I trusted the process but couldn’t pressure myself. I waited until something stood out, and it happened to be what I’ve heard my entire life.
“Bird” has always been my nickname. My grandparents share the story – I’d pick my food into smaller bites and eat, seemingly like a bird. I’ve never hated my nickname, honestly, it’s something unique to me that I love. I hear others loathe family nicknames as they’re often foolish or hurtful. However, I think my family got mine right!
Working with me feels like picking things apart and making them easier to understand, process, and handle in the future. I can’t promise a different outcome or experience, however, I can encourage your abilities to handle life as it unfolds. At Birds Collective, therapy is about slowing down, and picking at what feels too big or challenging to share. All the while, improving your distress tolerance, emotional regulation skills, self-esteem, confidence, communication, and more. Birds is about holding space for all parts of you, including those that require more care and attention.

Birds is a representation of who I am as a therapist. Sitting with folks and safely “picking apart” the deeply personal parts of their lives is where I thrive. I’m a firm believer that we all deserve spaces to be our most true self, whoever that may be. In the therapeutic space with me, my goal is to give you a soft space to land.
Why a Collective though?
The most important part of my practice as a therapist? Creating a safe, comforting space for people to be heard, seen, and cared for. I feel passionately that cultural competence is crucial to lasting healing and change. It’s incredibly important to me that Birds is a space that understands, adopts, appreciates, and advocates for cultural competence and the significance of lived experiences in the therapeutic space. This can only truly be reached as a collective. Finding an affirming therapist, let alone one with certain lived experiences, is seemingly impossible. A goal I’ve always had is to create a space where diversity is prioritized and celebrated, not just mentioned. A collective made sense to me, because it embraces the idea that together, we can help ourselves and others, without taking control over one another.
We function in social structures. Which basically means how we interact with others and follow certain patterns are based on societal influences. Because of these structures, we reproduce, get married, stay monogamous, etc. Birds do the same. We aren’t too unlike these lil’ guys, if you ask me.
Welcome to Birds Collective, I’m happy you landed here, and hope you find a reflection of yourself in this space. This is the beginning of a dream I’ve had for many years and hope you follow along!
